MET240 Metronome FAQ, Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I make the metronome start counting beats?
A: When you first start the application, the BPM counter will be stopped.
You can start it in two ways:
- Press the STAR key to start the beat counter. OR…
- Highlight the “Start” control and press SELECT/OK.
You can stop the metronome in the same way. To quit the application, you can
just press END, press CLR/BACK, or close your flip phone.
Q: How do I set the tempo?
A: There are four ways to set the tempo:
- Highlight the “Tempo” control and just type in the tempo
using the number pad. Any tempo between 30 beats per minute (BPM) and 240
BPM can
be entered. You can use CLR/BACK to erase. OR...
- Highlight the “Tempo” control and adjust the tempo by 1
BPM using LEFT or RIGHT. Each button press will change it by 1 BPM. OR…
- Highlight the “Range Name” control (under the Tempo control)
and adjust the tempo range name using LEFT or RIGHT. This will update
the tempo with an average value in the range. OR…
- Highlight the “Tap Tempo” control and repeatedly press
SELECT/OK at the desired tempo. After a few button presses the metronome
will settle
down on the average rate you are tapping.
Q: I don’t know the exact tempo of a song that I’m trying
to learn? How can I set the tempo to the rate of the song?
A: This is exactly what the “Tap Tempo” feature is for. While listening
to the song, tap SELECT/OK on the “Tap Tempo” control to the
beat. After a few button presses, the tempo will lock in to the approximate
BPM.
The more button presses you give the metronome, the more accurate the estimate
will be.
Q: How can I set the time signature so the metronome plays a different tone
on the down beat?
A: You can use the “Measure” control to set the time signature.
Enter a number between 1 and 99 in the control, and while the metronome is
running it will count up from 1 to that number. When it reaches the value in
the Measure control, it will restart back at 1 and beep out a different tone.
For example, if your song is in 3/4, you would put ‘3’ in the control;
likewise, if your song is in cut time, you would put ‘2’ in the
control.
Q: I need to use the metronome in a quiet setting. How do I adjust the volume?
A: The volume control lets you set how loud the metronome is beeping. There
are four settings:
- Loud Volume
- Medium Volume
- Quiet Volume
- Volume Off
Highlight the volume control and press LEFT until “Volume Off” is
displayed. When the metronome runs, it will count out the beat in the upper
right corner of the display. The backlight on your phone will stay on while
the metronome is running so you can read the display.
Q: How do I save the current tempo, measure, and volume?
A: The MET240 Metronome will automatically save these values when you exit
the application. The next time you start up the metronome it will use the
last values you were using. Just press STAR and the metronome will start
beeping at the last used tempo. Q: How do I start the metronome so the down beat syncs up with something that
is already playing?
A: There are two ways to sync up the metronome.
- Press STAR to stop the metronome, and then STAR again exactly when
you want the metronome to start. OR…
- Highlight “Tempo” and press SELECT/OK when you want
the metronome to start the down beat of the measure.
Q: Why doesn't the “Tap Tempo” feature seem to give
me the correct tempo?
The “Tap Tempo” feature uses averaging to estimate the tempo
you are tapping. It works very well if you are tapping a tempo that is
constant. However, if you are slowly changing the rate which you tap, the
averaging
could
give incorrect values. If this happens, just stop tapping for a few beats
and then start again. The averaging will restart and clear out the old
estimate.
